The Horizon - Amplified by AI

Vision is the ability to see a future that does not yet exist and begin giving it shape. AI amplifies that process because it dramatically increases how much we can explore, question, model, connect, and imagine before committing to a direction.

It also shapes the conversation. That part is important. AI is not merely sitting there waiting to answer a question. A productive interaction becomes iterative. You introduce an idea. AI challenges it, expands it, identifies weaknesses, introduces alternatives, and creates new questions. Those questions change your thinking, which changes the next question. The conversation itself can move the original idea somewhere you did not expect.

AI can also expose us to possibilities outside our own experience. Human vision is naturally constrained by what we know, what we have seen, who we talk to, and the industries or environments in which we have worked. AI can bring knowledge from other disciplines into the conversation almost instantly. A problem in real estate management might have an interesting parallel in healthcare, manufacturing, logistics, aviation, or software. That connection can create an entirely different way of seeing the problem.

Then there is simulation. Vision has traditionally required a significant leap between imagining something and determining whether it might work. AI can help model scenarios, test assumptions, compare alternatives, identify consequences, and explore second- and third-order effects before significant resources are committed.

And perhaps most importantly, AI makes iteration incredibly inexpensive. You can explore ten ideas instead of two. You can challenge your preferred idea instead of defending it. You can ask, what am I missing? What would have to be true? What happens if this assumption is wrong? What would someone from a completely different industry do?

This is where the amplifier analogy becomes interesting. It doesn't give you vision. It increases the field of view. And when the field of view becomes wider, the future contains more possibilities than the ones you could see before.
